Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the most frequently asked questions about us.

What is a senior transition service?
A senior transition service helps seniors and their families navigate the full process of moving from one home to another — or transitioning to assisted living or memory care. Unlike a regular moving company, a senior transition specialist handles everything: sorting through belongings, making decisions about what to keep or donate, coordinating estate sales, managing the physical move, and setting up the new space so it feels like home from day one. Lightwell guides Orange County families through every step of this process with patience, compassion, and a plan built around their timeline.
How much does a senior transition service cost?
The cost depends entirely on the scope of work — the size of the home, the volume of belongings, and which services the family needs. A declutter-only job for a smaller home might start around $1,200. A full end-to-end transition for a three or four bedroom home — including decluttering, estate sale coordination, move management, and new home setup — typically ranges from $5,500 to $12,000 or more. We do not publish set prices because no two transitions are the same. The best first step is a free in-home consultation where we assess the scope and give you a written proposal with a clear investment before anything begins.
Are senior move managers worth it?
For most families, yes — and not just because of the physical work. The physical work is significant, but the greater value is in removing the emotional and logistical load from the family. A senior transition involves deeply personal decisions about a lifetime of belongings, often made under time pressure, sometimes with family members who disagree. A senior move manager handles the process so the family can focus on being present with their loved one instead of buried in logistics. Most families tell us afterward that having a plan and a trusted team was worth every penny.
How long does it take to downsize a home?
It depends on the size of the home, the volume of belongings, and how many people are involved in the decisions. A one-bedroom apartment with a cooperative senior might take two to three days of hands-on work. A three or four bedroom home with decades of belongings, multiple family members with opinions, and an estate sale involved could take two to four weeks from start to finish. We build timelines around the family's pace — not a generic schedule. At our free in-home consultation we give you a realistic estimate based on what we actually see.
Do you only serve seniors, or can you help adult children too?
We work with the whole family. Many of our clients are adult children — often in their 40s and 50s, sometimes managing the transition from out of state — who need a trusted local team to handle everything on the ground. Whether you are the senior making this move yourself or a son or daughter trying to help a parent through it, Lightwell is here for you. We communicate with whoever needs to be kept informed and work at the pace that makes sense for your specific situation.
What areas of Orange County do you serve?
Lightwell Senior Transitions serves families throughout Orange County, California — including Irvine, Newport Beach, Tustin, Yorba Linda, Anaheim Hills, Mission Viejo, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods Village, Lake Forest, Huntington Beach, Fullerton, Orange, San Clemente, Laguna Beach, and surrounding communities. We also serve parts of Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Diego County. If you are not sure whether we serve your area, give us a call — and if we cannot help you directly, we will do our best to point you in the right direction.
Is the first consultation really free?
Yes — completely free and with no obligation. We come to the home, walk through every space with you, listen to what your family needs, and give you a clear picture of what the process looks like. You leave with a realistic sense of scope, timeline, and investment — all at no cost. Most families say the consultation alone takes a huge weight off, even if they are not ready to move forward right away. We do not pressure anyone to commit on the spot.
